The Cowboys hosted their cross-town rivals, the Tigers of Ragsdale. These familiar foes clash before schools head off for holiday break. The Cowboys and Tigers faced off in November and the Cowboys won for the 15th consecutive time against Ragsdale. The Tigers came into tonight off of back to back wins over West Forsyth and finding a groove. Southwest was looking to stay unbeaten and keep the streak alive against their archrivals. The visiting Tigers came in roaring and took advantage of 2 Southwest turnovers to grab an early 5-0 lead. In a blink the Cobwoys tied the game at 5 apeice. Ragsdale's momentum returned with a strong 6-0 run to get thier largest lead at 11-5 with 4:22 to play. Something finally clicked in the hosting Cowboys as they stopped turning the ball over and upped the tempo with a 12-0 run to claim the lead and push it out to 17-11 margin with 2:35 to play. The last minutes were back and forth with the Cowboys holding that slim lead as the frame closed at 21-14. The first 30 seconds of the second stanza was two quick buckets by Southwest to go up 25-14. The first half of this stanza had the Cowboys seemingly starting to impose their will and keep the margin in double figures, but the Tigers kept scratching and battling. The Cowboys couldn't maintain traction in the final 4 minutes of the half as the Tigers got the margin as close as 6 when it was 39-33 with 2:02 to go. The Cowboys managed to barely outscore the Tigers with the remaining time and got the halftime score to 45-35. After a discussion about unity and offensive efficiency, the Cowboys came out in the second half and really started to put it back together. A 7-0 spurt to start the half helped push the score to 52-35. The Tigers got on the board in the second half at the 6:02 mark to stop the run at 52-37. A Southwest bucket was countered with pair of free-throws by the Tigers and it was 54-39 at the 5:16 mark. Yet another 6-0 spurt and it was 60-39. The teams traded baskets for a few possessions, but then another spurt by the Cowboys continued to extend the lead. The Tigers closed the frame with a 3 pointer to cut the score to 73-51 heading into the final stanza. Southwest once again started the frame strong on both sides of the ball with another 8-0 run that made it 81-51 by the 6:30 point. The Tigers stopped the bleeding with their first points of the frame at the 6:05 mark to make it 81-53. The Southwest bench came in and contributed a solid finish to the game as they were able to maintain the margin and close out the game for a solid 97-65 win.
