The Cowboys took the short trip across town to kick off the new year against High Point Central. Southwest came into tonight off of their Sheetz Holiday Tournament championship over Southern, while the Bison are coming off of a come from behind overtime win against the Warriors of Wheatmore. The Cowboys took the first match-up of these two teams in early December with an 82-54 win, improving to 18-4 since 2010 against these former conference rivals. The Bison scored on their opening possession to go up quickly 2-0. The Cowboys quickly responded with an 8-0 run to get up 8-2 at the 6:27 mark. A pair of free throws at the 6:05 mark by the Bison stopped the run. The teams traded baskets for a few possessions until the Bison trimmed the lead all the way to 12-9 at the 4:49 point. Southwest stopped the bleeding this time with a pair of free throws and it was 14-9. The Bison then kept the momentum with a 9-0 run of their own to go up 18-14 with 1:20 to play in the frame. The Cowboys only managed a single basket and single free throw to end the frame down 18-17. The second quarter had Southwest open up with a 9-0 spurt of their own to reclaim the lead for good up 26-18 with 5:02 to play. A Bison three pointer got the hosts on the board at the 4:37 mark, which made it 26-21. Another 7-0 blur by the Cowboys extended it out to 32-21 with 3:37 to play. The teams played even, back and forth ball and the half closed out with Cowboys up 38-29. The third quarter was another signature frame by the Cowboys as they played solid defense that led to easy baskets as they out scored the Bison 21-9 in the frame to take a strong 59-38 lead headed into the final stanza. The last quarter was the same story, and the Cowboys held off Central for a convincing 86-59 road win to stay unbeaten on the season. The Bison were led by Jyree Ford with 16 points. Southwest played a solid team game once again, and placed 4 in double figures. Jayden Turner had (22, 6 Rebs, 4 Asts, 2 Stls), Christian Martin had (15, 7 Rebs, 2 Asts, Stl), Kobe Langley has (13, 5 Asts, 2 Stls), and Keyshaun Langley with (10, 5 Asts, 2 Stls).
