Cowgirls travel to the Lady Hornets of conference rival Western Guilford in tennis action

Warm to start, but quickly cooling off once the sun dipped, the Cowgirls sat out Kyra and Sam in singles to allow a bit more of a challenge for the ladies.

Mai came off winning 0 and 0.  The Lady Hornet played well, but was no match of the movement and placement of Mai.

Meghan also routed her opponent...1 and 0.  Most of the shots given were right in Meghan’s sweet spot...a dangerous combination with Meghan’s power.

Katelyn had little issue even playing up on court 3.  Her consistent rallies and a new skill, her net play paid off in taking her opponent 2 and 2.

Lanie did beautifully up on court 4.  Also playing up at the net, Lanie kept her opponent off balance throughout the match winning 2 and 2 as well.

Gretchen had the closest 1st set of all the courts.  Unable to control her serve, the Cowgirl and Hornet held serve throughout most of the 1st.  A break at 6-5, allowed Gretchen to go up 7-5.  The Lady Hornet had nothing left in her tank, losing the 2nd set 1-6.  A good battle of wills on court 5.

Abby Lowe joined the Cowgirls on court 6. Moving well, she took the Lady Hornet 3 and 3 with little fanfare.

Cowgirls take the match 6-0 in singles.

Sam and Meghan on court 1 dubs, Gretchen and Katelyn court 2, and Morgan Mcguire and Lauren Cook on court 3.

Lauren and Morgan had little trouble keeping pace with the Lady Hornets.  In control of the net and baseline, there was little the Cowgirls could do wrong in their 8-1 win.

Meghan and Sam took an extended tour of court 1 and Western’s hospitality.  Playing close and holding serve through the first 13 games, the Cowgirls finally broke earning the win 8-6.

Court 2 of Katelyn and Gretchen also held serve…or traded serves…or held serves again in the run up to tie it at 6-6…..and then the Hornets broke the Cowgirls 6-7.  Holding tight through 3 match points at deuce, the Cowgirls broke back 7-7.  Serving to hold and go up 8-7, the Cowgirls faltered instead, went down again 7-8.  Once more behind the 8 ball, the Cowgirls battled through, staving off 2 more match points…..coach ran out of the good flavored Tums at this point.  Cowgirls break..8-8, tiebreaker!  Enervated from the herculean effort to get it to deuce, the Cowgirls slipped to 2-3 in the tiebreaker and the Hornets lifted their game and came away by narrowly edging the Cowgirls 4-7 in the tiebreaker.
