NORTHWEST GUILFORD HIGH SCHOOL: 51

In the final Piedmont Triad 4A Conference Tournament (before realignment kicks in), the regular season champions Cowboys faced off against the only team to beat them, the Vikings of Northwest. Just like last season, these two conference foes split the regular season. This time around it was the Cowboys who jumped ahead with a nine-to run to open the game at the 5:09 mark. The Vikings however responded with a 50 sport of their own to make it 9-7 at the 4:16 mark. The teams traded baskets with Northwest cleaning the lead for the first time on the night at 12-11 with 3:12 to play. Southwest responded with another for 4-0 spurt to take a 15-12 lead with 2:40 on the clock. Northwest turned it up and re-clean the lead at 18-17. The final 20 seconds of the quarter were outstanding, has Southwest made a basket, then Northwest Guilford Reggie Davis hit a three-quarter court shot to give the Vikings the lead at 21-19. The second quarter play opened up with both teams not being able to find a good offensive rhythm, and it wasn't until B5: 19 Mark that the Cowboys managed to tie the game at 21 apiece. The Vikings held a small lead throughout the frame and took a small 34-30 lead going into the break. Following a discussion of reemphasizing defense of rebounding, the Cowboys started to Play complete defense of positions and limit Northwest to single shots on the offensive side. The Cowboys and Vikings still traded baskets throughout the frame as the Vikings defense continued to slow the pace of the game. Despite that however, The Cowboys took a 45–43 lead with 1:10 to play in the frame. Those final 70 seconds showed the Cowboys had committed to playing better solid team defense and got a good defensive stop to end the quarter at the same score. The final frame continued the heated battle. Southwest struck first quickly to get the margin at 47-43 just 30 seconds into the frame. Another solid defense of stop and score but the cowboys are 49-43. In a foul filled frame, Southwest managed to get all of the key stops, and shoot a good field goal and free-throw percentage to slowly pull away for a strong, tough, and physical win on the road at 60-51. The Vikings were led by Tre Turner with 22 points. The Cowboys were paced by: Kameron Langley with (15, 6 Asts, 4 Rebs, Stl), Kobe Langley with (15, 7 Rebs, 2 Asts, 2 Stls), and Christian Martin with (11, 5 Blks, 5 Stls, 4 Rebs, Ast). The Cowboys head into the State Playoffs after winning the regular season and tournament championships.
