Coach Michael Connolly grew up locally in High Point and attended Southwest from 2009-2013, where he was a three year letterman in football playing outside linebacker and tight end. After graduating from Southwest, Coach Connolly attended UNC-Charlotte, where he was a Student Video Assistant for the football team from 2014 - 2017. Coach Connolly graduated Summa Cum Laude from UNC-Charlotte in 2017 with a bachelor's degree in Mathematics. 

Following his graduation from Charlotte, Coach Connolly joined the Coaching Staff at Southwest as the Defensive Line Coach in 2017. In his 5 years as Defensive Line Coach, Coach Connolly has coached 9 all conference selections as well as 4 All-Area Selections. He was a part of the staff on 3 teams that qualified for the NCHSAA playoffs. He also began his teaching career teaching 8th grade at Southwest Middle. In 2018, Coach Connolly transitioned to his current position of teaching math at Southwest High. Coach Connolly is also currently an Assistant Coach for the Varsity Basketball team at Southwest.

In 2021, Coach Connolly was promoted to JV Head Coach, where he coached the team to an 8-2 record, finishing 2nd in the conference. In this position, Coach Connolly hopes to help build a better football program for Southwest by giving excellent coaching, mentorship, and preparation to the JV team that will help prepare them for success on and off of the field at the varsity level.

Coach Connolly was recently married in 2020 to his wife Gabbi, who is a 1st grade teacher and soccer coach in Forsyth County. The couple happily resides in Kernersville, NC.
