Girls Varsity Tennis vs. Northwest Senior HS School

Game Date
Sep 10, 2014
Score
COWBOYS: 0
NORTHWEST SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL: 9

Southwest lost in conference play v the Lady Vikings of Northwest.  Proving too strong but for two great showings at #1 and #6 singles, the Vikings cruised to a 9-0 victory.

Coach was remarked as saying that there was no bad playing on SW's part, it was simply the strength of the Lady Vikings...that was the advantage that clenched their victory tonight.

Notable playing:

#6 - Mai Vo, Freshman, struggled during the first set earning on one game as return for her efforts, but she came out swinging in the second set, holding tight with the senior from NW, matching her stroke for stroke, volley for volley.  With her serves true, she held serve until her final service game when in two deuces, her play and improbable run was halted by a magnificent play from her opponent.  Holding serve, NW claimed a victory at #6.  Beginning to understand her own strength, Mai will be able to channel her focus and deliver on the promised win next encounter.

#1 - Maggie Jermyn - Coming off a near marathon match yesterday v Western Guilford, Maggie was primed and ready to take on the NW Lady Vikings.  But so too was her opponent who caught Maggie with an impressive array of shots, securing a 6-2 first set.  Not to be outplayed, Maggie once more, changed tactics and began to inch back initially and then unleashed what can only be called Maggie Plus, taking the second set 6-3.  Now it was down to the third and final set...a super 10 tiebreaker.  Trading serves and shots, NW and Maggie both painted the lines and corners where NW pulls up to a 5-4 lead.
