Girls Varsity Tennis vs. East Forsyth HS

Game Date
Sep 11, 2014
Score
COWBOYS: 9
EAST FORSYTH HS: 0

The East Forsyth Eagles hosted the SW Cowgirls for their first meeting of the season.  With the sun heavy above, hats and shades were in abundant supply across the fans as they came out to watch...all 6 of them...all parents...and two kids whom we just assume belonged to one or more of the aforementioned.  But I digress.

After a brief warm-up and even more brief cool down, the Cowgirls were ready to take the courts.  Courts 1-6 began play.  The talents and depth of the Cowgirls became quite apparent in their play, quickly settling 3 of the 6 matches in under an hour.  One more barely eclipsed an hour twenty, with the deciding match summing up in the next ten minutes.

The match of the day goes to Sophia Nagy.  With the contest already decided, Sophia was still in her first set, battling a talented freshman at #2 singles.  Trailing behind almost all set, Sophia evens up the score at 5 all.  raising her game, she pulls ahead 6-5 with a well timed service game.  Dropping the return of serve, now tied at 6-6, the ladies head to a 12 point tie breaker(first to 7 by two).  Trading points indiscriminately, they swapped sides (it is a tennis thing).  Now in the sun, Sophia's serve goes wide, the second one over.  A 12 shot rally later, her opponent pushes Sophia back to the baseline, a shot back deep, her opponent tinks one short, Sophia covers, but pushes it long, point East Forsyth.  Now tied at seven all, focus waning, Sophia succumbs to the aggressive and a bit wild play of her East Forsyth opponent.

The second set begins and I can tell Sophia has released a lot of her tension in the changeover.  Sophia quickly emerges on top at the 2-1 change and doesn't look back.  4 straight games more and Sophia holds the rights to set number 2.  The third and deciding set will be played.  In conference, a 10 points super tiebreaker suffices for the longer cousin called a third set.  Without missing a beat, Sophia serves...point.  Two return of serves...point, point.  3-0 Sophia.  Once more, the next 4 points fall Sophia's way.  A bit of unrest from the Eagles player and the score now 7-2.  And that was all.  The heat and length of the match finally getting to the East Forsyth player, the last three points were a formality as Sophia Nagy triumphs over a very talented freshman from East Forsyth - 10-2 in the third.

Doubles went quickly with the Cowgirls securing a 9-0 victory at EF
