Girls Varsity Tennis vs. Ragsdale HS School

Game Date
Sep 22, 2014
Score
COWBOYS: 4
RAGSDALE HIGH SCHOOL: 5

And so it began.  A rematch of last Thursday's handedly defeat of Cowgirls by the lady Tigers of Ragsdale 2-7.  With a new #6 Ellen Druebbisch and bit of a change up in the middle of the rotation, the cowgirls stood poised to go down swinging....but they did more than that.

Warmups beginning, #4 from Ragsdale rolls her ankle and after Trainer Kober swoops by in his Le Club chariot, she is deemed too injured to play.  To allow an opportunity for the Tigers to compete, Cowgirl Erin Shelton took on a very capable #7 seed for the Tigers and prevailed.

Ragsdale #'1 and 2 both paced themselves and came up the victors agains our very own Maggie Jermyn and Sophia Nagy.  #5 Cather Jobe quickly dismissed her opponent 1 and 4.  Ellen Druebbisch, having challenged up and winning against Mai Vo, took on Ragsdale #6.  Though the first set proved exciting with Ellen prevailing 6-4, the second set proved rather lopsided with Ellen dismissing her opponent 6-0.

But the match of the day proved to be Hannah Mills, playing at #3 for the first time this season.  Her opponent had previously dismissed Catherine Jobe 1 and 1 last Thursday.  Hannah stood ready and boy did she deliver.  Down 2-0, Hannah began to climb back, 2-1, 3-1, 3-2 at the changeover.  Hannah held her opponent shot for shot, trading games and serves.  With a break, Hannah went up 6-5.  Not to be outdown, Ragsdale dug deep and evened it out at 6-6...a tiebreaker to ensue.  Hannah, playing out of her mind with punishing groundstrokes and serving, finally succombed to the talents of #3 Ragsdale losing 2-7 in the tiebreaker.  Though the second set proved tight in individual games, the final score truely was not indicative of the play that happened.

The cowgirls entered into doubles 3-3.

#1 went to ragsdale

#3 the cowgirls

#2 teetered back and forth, but in the end, Ragsdale prevailed against the Cowgirls.

We had our chances, but left some morsels on the table.

The Cowgirls host East Forsyth (conf) on Wednesday and travel to Western on Thursday to finish out the week with a non-conference match.

The Cowgirls fall to 9-5 overall and 3-4 in conference play.
