Womens Varsity Tennis vs. Northwest Guilford HS School

Game Date
Oct 3, 2016
Score
COWBOYS: 0
NORTHWEST GUILFORD HIGH SCHOOL: 9

October 3, 2016 – NW

Southwest Travels to Northwest for Conference Tennis Action

Though it wasn’t a great outcome according to the score, all of the Cowgirls played exceptionally well against a very talented team with very developed strokes.

Kyra Akande court 1

Mai Vo Court 2

Ellen Druebbisch Court 3

Sam Hamrick Court 4

Katelyn Leinbach Court 5

Meghan Whalen Court 6

So as not to prolong this write up, the Cowgirls lost 0-6 in singles and 0-3 in dubs.  But as most stories go, the score isn’t indicative of the play on each court.

Kyra hit some of the best serves of her year and definitely some of the best returns of her high school career against the Vikings #1.

Mai did tremendous nearly coming back in the second set before falling a break down 2 and 4.

Ellen’s stroke was consistent and true as she did battle against her opponent.

Sam learned how not to “hit it harder” when facing a tough opponent, rather, develop the points over several shots and wait for the opening.

Katelyn fell to the conference runner up from last season – one with excellent passing shots as a lefty…something dear Katelyn hasn’t had the opportunity to play against yet in her career.

Meghan was able to bounce back to better anticipate her opponent’s shots and develop the points more as well.

0-6 Vikings taking all singles courts

Mai and Ellen Court 1 dubs

Sam and Whalen Court 2

Kristen Taylor and Gretchen Cross Court 3

Kristen and Gretchen played solid net but the Vikings were a bit much with excellent shot selection and lobs.

Sam and Meghan played a variant of dubs from the baseline and better anticipated their opponents’ shots and made a match out of it.

Mai and Ellen almost took their opponents at #1 dubs, but fell 6-8 in tight play.  They will come together nicely when they convene for the HPC rematch on Wednesday and conference tournament next Tuesday/Wednesday.
