The Cowboys of Southwest hit the road for the first time this year and headed over to Greensboro to face off against the Whirlies of Grimsley. The Cowboys handled the Whirlies in an earlier matchup this season, and the Cowboys come into tonight still unbeaten. Grimsley comes into tonight coming off a victory over Southern Guilford. In the rematch from November the Cowboys and Whirlies both came in hungry for another win. Grimsley came out and scored the first two baskets, but the Cowboys countered with the same. The opening frame continued in the same fashion until a 7-0 run by the Cowboys pushed the lead at 15-8 with roughly 2:30 to go in the frame. Unfortunately for the Cowboys, that was about the only momentum for them all night. The Whirlies outscored the visitors 23-9 for the remainder of the first half, taking a 31-24 lead headed into the half. The second half opened with the Cowboys slowly climbing back into it and even taking a 40-39 lead at the close of the frame. The final quarter was another 8 minutes of ugly ball. It was back and forth again until the Cowboys seemed to take slight control with a 51-47 at the 2:25 mark. Back to back 3's by the Whirlies put the lead back in favor of the home teams. A missed open 3 that went in and out, and a costly turnover cost the Cowboys the chance to pull it back out. The Whirlies end Southwest's unbeaten streak of regular season games with a 59-54 win over the Cowboys. The Cowboys were led by KJ Langley with 14, 4 Asts, 2 Stls. Grimsley was led by Lucas Bouknight 16, Devin Banks 12, and Luke Mulvey 11.
