The Cowboys played hosts to the visiting Tigers of Ragsdale High school in a heated Piedmont Triad 4A Conference match-up. The Tigers are trying to rebound following a tough home loss to the Vikings, while the Cowboys are looking to keep the momentum rolling and stay perfect at the top of Conference play. Southwest wants to win a 12th consecutive game over their rivals in their final regular season match-up as conference opponents. The Cowboys won the earlier match up at Ragsdale two weeks ago convincingly, and wanted a repeat performance, but the Tigers wanted to reverse the script against their arch rivals. On the opening possession following the tip off the Cowboys turned the ball over. In what seemed to be slightly symbolic of things to come. Ragsdale was able to come down and get fouled and make a single free-throw going up 1-0. Their lead last a mere ten seconds as the Cowboys quickly got the ball back down the floor and made a quick basket making it 2-1. The Tigers responded with a basket of their own making it 3-2, giving them their last lead of the night at the 7:00 mark. Southwest used a 10-0 run to make it 12-3 by the 3:30 mark. Following a Tiger's timeout they were able to stop the bleeding with a basket to take us to 12-5. From there, the Cowboys used a quarter ending 12-0 run making it 24-5 which was highlighted by an impressive put back slam- and 1 by Kobe Langley. The second quarter opened up with a Cowboys 6-0 spurt taking it to 30-5 by the 5:50 mark. The Tigers got on the board for the frame at 30-7, but in a blink another Cowboy 3 pointer made it 33-7 at the 5:35 mark. From there however, the Tigers played the hosting Cowboys even on the frame as they traded baskets, spurts, and turnovers. The opening half closed with Southwest up 44-22. The third quarter was sloppy and disjointed for the Cowboys as fouls and missed looks began to slow the pace to an uncharacteristic screeching halt. Overall it was not a good quarter of basketball on either side, until a flurry of traded baskets and 3 pointers in the final 75 seconds made the tally 60-36. The fourth quarter mimicked the third with several poor possessions on both sides of the ball, with good ball movement and execution sprinkled in between. Southwest was able to keep the Tigers at a safe distance throughout the night and sped away with the 74-47 home conference win to stay unbeaten in conference play. The Tigers were led by Nick Coleman with 16 points. Southwest was led by Brandon Lamberth with (18,6 Rebs, Ast), Dezmond Woods with (15, 2 Rebs, 2 Asts), and Kameron Langley with (11, 8 Rebs, 4 Asts, 3 Stls). The Cowboys improve to 17-2 and 6-0 in the conference. The Cowboys host the Bobcats of Glenn on Thursday night.
