Mens Varsity Basketball vs. Northwest Guilford HS School

Game Date
Feb 7, 2017
Score
COWBOYS: 72
NORTHWEST GUILFORD HIGH SCHOOL: 75

Southwest traveled over to Northwest Guilford in a match up of the top two teams in the Piedmont Triad 4A Conference. The Cowboys came from behind and then held off the Vikings in front of a packed house a couple of weeks ago. The Vikings haven't lost since and are trying to keep hopes for a share in the conference title. A win tonight would clinch the conference title for the Cowboys. This game opened up almost exactly as the previous match up. Northwest took control of the game with lights out shooting and solid team defense. Southwest struggled to find a rhythm with four positions and even worse shooting. The opening frame closed with the host Vikings up 23-13. The Cowboys thought back to trim the margin to 27-13 at the 5:10 mark. Northwest responded with a run of their own to close out the half and make the second-quarter a wash and a half time Talley was 38-28. Southwest struck first in the second half but Northwest one play responded with another three pointer. Again anytime southwest wood trim the margin Southwest managed to trip their own selves up and allow spurts for the Vikings to push the margin back out. The third-quarter closed at 53-44. The fourth quarter was full of the same action. Southwest would chip away at the lead, and Northwest would edge back out. Southwest never really found that rhythm until the closing minutes when it was too late as the final horn sounded Northwest held off the late surge of the Cowboys. Southwest falls tonight 75-72, and must wait to clinch the conference with a win over High Point Central Thursday night. The Vikings were led by Thomas Hennigan with 25 points. The Cowboys placed 5 in double figures. Featuring: Keyshaun Langley with (18, 3 Rebs, Ast, Stl), Brandon Lamberth with (18, 5 Rebs, Stl), Kobe Langley with (12, 5 Asts, 3 Rebs, Stl), Christian Martin with (11, 2 Rebs, 2 Blks), and Kameron Langley's double double of (11, 10 Rebs, 4 Asts, Stl).
