The bats came alive in the season opener for the Southwest Cowboys varsity baseball team as they defeated the visiting Morehead Panthers, 14-4. Tom Grose, Garrison Thornton, Mason Chu, and Isaiah Hairston each collected multiple hits, led by Grose's 4-for-4 outing and Thornton's 3-hit, 4-RBI effort.  Kyle Blendinger dominated the outmatched Panthers hitters, striking out nine in four scoreless innings for the home team.

There were plenty of offensive highlights for the Cowboys. Hairston collected two doubles and two RBI's, while Chu drove in three runs on a single and a double. Jacob Edwards got the job done in the leadoff spot, scoring three times after drawing three walks.  Grose crossed the plate 3 times while both Tommy Zente and Colin Busick each scored twice.

Blendinger's domineering performance earned him the win and included at least 2 strikeouts in each inning, including three in the third.  He also contributed 2 RBI's to help his own cause.

The Cowboys next game is a home contest versus Trinity High School on Wednesday, March 1st at 5pm.
