Sean McIntosh pitched a strong seven and 2/3 innings to lead the Southwest Cowboys varsity baseball team to a championship in the 30th annual Bobby Murray invitational tournament on Saturday night.  The Cowboys defeated Corinth Holders, semi-finalists in last year’s 3A state championship, 2-1 in eight innings.  McIntosh’s strong performance on the mound earned him a spot on the all-tournament team along with teammates Jacob Edwards and Garrison Thornton.  Kyle Blendinger was named the tournament's most outstanding player.

The game was won in the bottom of the eight inning after both Thornton and Blendinger drew walks.  With two outs, Mason Chu launched a very high fly ball down the right field line where it was misplayed by the Corinth Holders right fielder, resulting in Thornton's game-winning run.  It was a pitcher’s dual throughout the game.  McIntosh only gave up 3 hits and struck out six while the Cowboys only managed two hits - by Blendinger and Isaiah Hairston.  The difference was the difference.  The Cowboys defense made several great plays while playing error-free. Outfielders AJ Allen, Edwards, and Tommy Zente essentially stole many base hits with spectacular catches. Both Cowboy runs were a result of the two Corinth Holder errors in the game.

The Cowboys return to conference play this week with games at home versus Ragsdale on Tuesday and at East Forsyth on Friday.  Both games are at 7pm.
