Tommy Zente lead an offensive onslaught to lead the Southwest Cowboys varsity baseball team to an 8-0 victory over conference rival East Forsyth on Friday night.  Zente was 3-for-4 at the plate, including two doubles, and had four RBI’s.  Three Cowboy pitchers combined for 12 strikeouts on the way to a shutout victory.

Jacob Edwards started the game on the mound  and went 2 1/3 innings before leaving the game with a sore arm.  Sean McIntosh picked up his first win of the season by pitching 2 2/3 innings.  Kyle Blendinger threw the final two innings to dash any hopes the Eagles may have had.  It was tight game until it started pouring, both literally and figuratively.  As the rain started in the top of the seventh, the Cowboys hits and runs started pouring as well.  Southwest sent nine batters to the plate and scored five runs on four hits.  Both Isaiah Hairston and Zente had 2-RBI doubles in the inning.  The scoring was capped off by AJ Allen’s RBI triple down the right field line.   Allen ended the night with two hits.  In all, the Cowboys racked up 10 hits, including singles by Garrison Thornton, Kyle Blendinger, Mason Chu, and Paul Bullock.

With two conference games to go, the Cowboys, 7-1, have a 2-game lead over East Forsyth, and Northwest Guilford, both of whom sit at 5-3.  The Cowboys next game is Tuesday at Northwest Guilford.  Game time is 7pm.
