Leonard "Gator" Williams joined the Southwest staff in August of 2001. His extensive coaching background includes 11 years as assistant coach with Guilford County , a year at Dudley High School , Three years at Smith High School, seven years at Southwest, , and one year at Livingstone College.

 Coach Williams also served six years in the military as a U.S. Paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division and the First Infantry Division Forward  in Europe. While serving in the military Williams played three years Army based football and was a member of the 7th Division Europe championship power-lifting team and named to the All-Army-football team with other greats such as Terry Long, Pittsburgh Steelers, Deck Warner, and Willie Wilds.

 Leonard "Gator" Williams played college football at the University of Florida and Livingstone College. Williams played professional football with the Tampa Bay Bandits of the USFL, United States Football League.

 

Williams has a lovely wife Crystal and a son Jeremiah who is a member of the Southwest football, Basketball and Track team. Coach Williams works primarily with Inside Linebackers.

Coach Williams currently works at Allen Jay Middle School as the ISS teacher. Coach Williams has worked with at risk youth with special needs for over eighteen years; as well as therapeutic foster care, Willie-M case manager, and Intensive In-Home. Williams has partnered with other community service providers and resources, law enforcement (gang/substance abuse) prevention on campuses, Adviser for the National Association of (SAVE) Students Against Violence Everywhere.  NCCASA, NCCADV, DJJDP, DSS, and area LME’s for families of Special-Needs/At-Risk adolescents.  Williams has also worked Managing Access for Juvenile Offenders Resources and Services (MAJORS). Substance abuse assessments and treatment for adolescent’s referred by Alamance/ Burlington Schools and/or through the Department of Juvenile Justice and criminal court.
